- Putting lawyers in the driver’s seat to collaborate with generative AI is the next step in Uncover’s ongoing journey of improving efficiency and increasing profitability of law firms by using tech
- Unique combination of GPT-powered generative AI and in-house developed technology allows users to ask questions and delegate tasks about case documents, to AI
- Uncover takes away fear of data security breaches by ensuring that data that comes through Uncover will not be used to train any AI model, including the OpenAI model
Legal tech startup Uncover has extended its solution with a GPT-powered paralegal, exclusively designed for lawyers: “Ask Uncover”. By combining their inhouse built technology with OpenAI’s most advanced conversational AI capabilities, Uncover allows its users to take control and actively collaborate with AI.
Uncover’s goal is to take away manual, repetitive, and tedious work and thereby enable lawyers to focus on complex legal issues that only they can solve. “Ask Uncover” is the next step in achieving that goal, allowing lawyers to ask questions and delegate tasks to their 24/7 available AI-paralegal. After all, who better to determine what lawyers need help with, than lawyers themselves?
Ingrid van de Pol, co-CEO: “we noticed that our users are very capable of collaborating with AI to generate all sorts of outputs like emails, translations, explanations and so forth. Therefore, we developed a feature that allows our users to be in the driver's seat”.
Caroline Zand-Korteweg, co-CEO continues: “what makes “Ask Uncover” unique is that you can send document(s) along with your request. This allows you to ask questions and delegate tasks to Ask Uncover, relating to all documents in your matter. With this, “Ask Uncover” allows for a completely new way of working together with AI.
Use cases
The start-up is serious when it comes to enabling their users to work efficiently, so it decided to share its learnings about generative AI. Every user has the option to participate in a prompt training. During such training, Uncover educates lawyers on how to best interact with “Ask Uncover” and provides tips and tricks to get them going. In addition, users are provided with a “cheat sheet” full of tasks and questions that are suited to delegate to “Ask Uncover”.
With virtue comes responsibility
Founded by lawyers, Uncover is aware of the limitations of the legal knowledge of “Ask Uncover”. Lawyers using “Ask Uncover” are explicitly encouraged to work alongside the solution and think of it as a pair of hands that can pick up any type of simple task. “Ask Uncover is not a trained lawyer and thus its output should not be received as such.
Caroline Zand-Korteweg: “for lawyers this is a very natural way of working. Lawyers are used to checking and improving work received from colleagues that are more junior. In this case “the junior colleague” is not human but AI”.
Emphasis on data security
Lawyers handle confidential information on behalf of their clients. It is of the utmost importance to keep that information secure. Uncover manages data in a system that is designed to protect that data against disclosure or access. The Uncover security system is ISO 27001 and certified and GDPR certified.
Imre Gelens, CTO: “No data whatsoever that comes through Uncover will be used to train any AI model including the OpenAI model”.
